Situational Coaching

The Learning Need: Situational coaching – when people are in conflict

Corporate coaching is an activity that leaders rely on to build commitment in their employees and to effect change. A coaching relationship between a leader and an employee is built over time. It is based on trust, clarity and caring. None of these qualities is optional in an effective coaching relationship.

Sam and Jo have been working as nurses on the unit for sometime. Their relationships with each other and with their leader Paul are not optimal. When Sam and Jo have a disagreement on the unit, Paul makes some choices which both help and hinder the situation. What are the effects of Paul's Choice?

Participants learn that a coaching relationship is something that grows over time. It is not something that can be mandated just by wearing the title of “manager”. Participants learn how the way they orient themselves to their staff and the conversations that they have with them can build effective coaching relationships.
