The Learning Need: Dealing with the day-to-day around Mission, Vision & Values

Often the first response among staff to changes in strategy in a company is “This new direction is great. Just don't expect me to change!” Of course, the only way strategies can change is for every person in the company to examine how they must change to contribute to attaining the goal.

In Resourcin', values are brought to the fore when a change in strategy takes place. Bob has been a successful professional in the firm for almost 30 years and he knows the combination for success: make money - and nothing else matters. Jack has been a manager for less than a year. Trying to find ways to improve the culture of his environment is something that was cemented in his world view when he was studying at school. His problem is that, in his mind, no one else really values that. So he is learning … to become just like Bob.

Participants work through conversations with Bob and Jack to ask themselves just how closely they are aligned with the Mission, Vision and Values of the company. They ask themselves the critical question: "What do I have to let go of to be able to achieve the Vision we all agree we want?" Participants learn that success comes from a deep reflection on how their own values align with the new company's – and what they are prepared to do to help others with the same question.

Strategic planning is one step in a long process of change. Strategic dissemination through conversations with people is a necessary part of goal attainment. This simulation gets participants to the root of the matter.
