Leadership & Management
The Learning Need: Hiring, Goal Setting, Corporate Coaching and Handling Crises
All of the roles of a new manager can be a challenge to new learners. And yet, the costs of errors can be large. This simulation provides a safe place for the learner to explore some of the nuances of leadership and management.
Tracy Beckett is a candidate for a position as an investment executive. Participants, in their role as manager, will hire Tracy in one simulation, set goals in the next, have a coaching conversation in the third (when goals are not being met) and finally, have a difficult conversation with him when Tracy's life is imploding and the effects are undeniable at work.
Participants develop a relationship with the character through a series of simulations and learn that meetings like these are not “neutral.” Building relationships with their people is critical for the times when conversations become difficult. They learn that management detachment and human connection is a continuum along which good leaders move with ease. They learn that being one thing to all people and all situations is not good leadership.
This simulation is like a comprehensive immersion in leadership for our leaders. As they learn
elements of leadership, this simulation tests their ability to put their learning into practice. There
is no better way for us to help managers make their learning “live”.
